What an amazing parallel I see in the story of the 3 women “held captive” in Ohio. I can’t help but think of how that is such a picture of what its like to be “held captive” by legalistic, condemning, controlling, sin and death. To be bound and hidden in what feels like the darkest and most desperate place. Clawing and scratching but feeling powerless and hopeless. In the midst of all that despair, something leads us to “cry out” and Jesus comes running and sets us Free!
So many times legalism comes demanding obedience to the law, but Grace comes to the rescue saying, “come with me” I’m a better way. Those men who held those women captive wanted allegiance and obedience but had to chain them up and brow beat them to obtain it, Jesus comes to undo our chains and frees us from performance and bondage and that produces worship and tremendous Joy that we are really FREE.
There have been times in my walk, I have used the law to brow beat and demand allegiance to a HOLY GOD. That brings me great pain knowing that I have been like these men to cause others to beg and plead for freedom. So thankful that God has set a captive like me free ..I never want to be one who finds himself or puts someone else into a place of such darkness and despair. That is why the message of the Cross is so powerful and so needs to be restored to its proper place today all across this planet!. Its where the Law ran into a man outside...willing to answer a call. Thank You God that You so loved us, that You sent Your Only begotten Son, that whosoever “cries out to Him” “shall be rescued!”
